Giving to Keuka

Leaders & Volunteers

2012-2013 National Keuka Fund Committee

Katherine Tuttle Meisch ’58
Canandaigua, NY

Kay Meisch ‘58 earned a bachelor’s degree at Keuka and did graduate work at the University of Rochester, Ohio State, Brown University, University of Iowa, and University of California, Berkeley. She was a chemistry teacher at Webster High School for 33 years.

She has been a member of Keuka’s Board of Trustees for more than 20 years, serving from 1991-2000 and 2001-2010, before rejoining the Board for a three-year term in 2011.

Meisch received the Keuka College Alumni Association’s Professional Achievement Award in 1983 and Eleanor Judd Wilkes Service to Keuka Award in 1995. In 2010, she became only the sixth person in Keuka annals to receive the Norton-Blyley Presidential Medallion, which recognizes service to the College “above and beyond an extraordinary high standard.” She was inducted into the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities Hall of Distinction in 2002.

Meisch has a passion for community service, with some examples including the Bristol Valley Theater board and a docent and president of the Women’s Council of Granger Homestead.

Says Meisch: “I watched the College grow from a small, private, women’s college when I attended to a larger, co-ed college that now includes the Accelerated Studies for Adults Program, a distance education program, and programs in China and Vietnam. When I graduated in 1958, I never dreamed that Keuka would someday be granting master’s degrees. I’ve seen the restoration of Hegeman, Harrington, Jephson, and Ball Hall and have been a part of the steering committees for these campaigns. My Keuka College degree made a difference in the rest of my life, the job I got, the people I met, and the friends I made.

“It is important for each of us to support Keuka to provide financial aid to students who otherwise might not be able to attend college. The percentage of alumni giving is crucial when the College applies for grants. What foundation wants to give financial support to a college if their alumni don’t support the college themselves? A Keuka degree is the foundation on which you build your future. Many recent graduates have loans to repay but please remember to send a donation to Keuka even if it’s small those first few years.

“Each class should try to have the largest percentage of giving. Let’s make 2012-2013 a record year for percentage giving. Join me in giving as we help Keuka move into the future with new strategic plans.”

Roger Ward ’03, M ’05, M ’11
Waterloo, NY

Roger Ward has earned three degrees through the Accelerated Studies for Adults Program (ASAP) program 2003.

He first completed a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice systems, then a master’s in management. Then in 2011, Ward graduated with his second master’s – in criminal justice administration.

After logging 25 years as a corrections officer with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Ward stepped into a new position as jail administrator in April 2010, after posting the top score on the October 2009 civil service exam.

Sheriff Jack Stenberg cited Ward’s in-depth knowledge of correction law and correctional facility operations as “without compare.”

“When I started in ASAP it was a simple financial transaction. Over the next 18 months. I learned about some of the history and traditions of the traditional students and about Field Periods. The philosophy of combining formal classroom learning with the realities of the working world mirrored what my parents had spent years trying to teach me. They seemed to get wiser as I got older; isn’t that the way? When you find a college–or anything–whose mission and efforts are designed and directed toward the success of the student, how could you not help but be a part of the greater success of that college?”
